thanks for all who helped me. the problem wa that my workmate
did not have the esri fonts installed in the system font folder. after
we re-installed them everything went back to normal.

Subject: Funky Map Symbols...

My colleague has AV 3.2  installed on his win98 machine just
like I do. He has a problem when he creates a point shapefile.
The symbol for the points comes out as a pound symbol (#) instead
of the circle. We have tried various things like importing the default.avp
palette and even other palettes such as the crime.avp palette.
But the symbols still shows up as a # symbol or other character and I
cannot for the life
of me fix it. What could be the cause of this??
